Anna Maria Island in October: What to Expect

Are you considering a trip to Anna Maria Island this October? You've come to the right place! With years of experience welcoming visitors to our beloved slice of paradise, we know exactly how each month brings its own unique charm to the island - and October is no exception!

We've got down all the tips and tricks you can think of regardless of when you visit, from the can't-miss activities to the local events that define each season. October, in particular, has a unique allure that you won't find in any other month.

October on Anna Maria Island is a seriously underrated time to visit. It's a time when the island's natural beauty shines (without the humidity!), and there's a special kind of magic in the air as the temperatures cool. Let us guide you through everything you can expect when visiting Anna Maria Island in October.

October Weather on Anna Maria Island

October brings comfortable fall weather to AMI. This fall month offers warm, sunny days with high temperatures in the mid-80s and lows in the mid-70s, perfect for enjoying plenty of outdoor activities without the intense heat of summer. The humidity drops to comfortable levels this time of year, making beach days, nature walks, and water activities popular things to do.

Evenings are cooler, with light breezes that are perfect for dining al fresco or watching a sunset over the Gulf. The rain is rare, and the skies are mostly clear, giving you more time to explore and soak up the sun.

Best Things to Do in October on Anna Maria Island

October is filled with plenty of ways to explore, relax, and experience the best of Anna Maria Island. Here are some top activities to add to your itinerary.

1. Beach Days and Water Activities

You may be surprised, but October's weather is absolutely perfect for enjoying the island's beautiful beaches and warm Gulf waters. The summer tourists have thinned out, giving you more room to relax and soak up the sun without the crowds!

A trip to  Coquina Beach will impress you with its wide, soft sands and family-friendly atmosphere. Don't forget to check out the Coquina Beach Market, a fantastic  farmers market set to kick off on at the beggining of October.

Or, head to  Bean Point for a quieter, more secluded beach experience. At the northern end of the island, it's one of the best beaches for solitude and perhaps some  beachcombing.

Renting a  kayak or paddleboard to explore the calm waters and spot marine life, such as dolphins or even the occasional manatee, up close and personal is another October favorite!

2. Fishing Adventures

October is prime fishing season on Anna Maria Island, with plenty of opportunities to reel in a nice catch. The local waters seem to be teeming with a variety of species, including cobia, redfish, snook, snapper, and more.

Most companies offer a mix of offshore, inshore/nearshore, deep sea, and reef fishing, each providing a unique angling experience. Whether you're a seasoned angler or a novice, October is a great time to cast your line and reel in a memorable catch.

Or perhaps you want to try your luck from some of the island's  piers, such as the historic Rod and Reel Pier or the  Anna Maria City Pier. For a more casual experience, you can also enjoy surf fishing right from the beach - no experience required!

3. Explore Local Nature Reserves

With more comfortable temperatures during this time of the year, October is a truly great time to explore the island's natural habitats. Walk among mangroves, say 'hi' to the local wildlife, and enjoy the tranquility and quiet of these preserved areas.

The expansive  Robinson Preserve is perfect for biking, birdwatching, or kayaking. If you want something even more secluded, try the lesser known  Perico Preserve just nearby. A leisurely walk at Leffis Key Preserve provides a great backdrop for photos and wildlife sightings.

4. Sunset Cruises and Dolphin Tours

There's nothing like watching an Anna Maria Island sunset from the waters of the Gulf. October's calm waters and clear skies provide the perfect setting for a fun and truly memorable evening on a boat.

Enjoy a romantic evening with a  sunset cruise. Sunsets on the Gulf side of the island are known as some of the best in the country! If you're looking for something less romantic, try taking a  dolphin tour and see these playful creatures in their natural habitat. Or, choose a sailing charter for a more personalized  boat tour experience on the Gulf.

5. Golfing and Mini Golf

For those who like to hit the links, October's comfortable weather makes it an ideal month to hit the greens or enjoy a friendly round of mini golf with the family.

Given the small size of the island, you won't be surprised to learn that there's only one full golf course (and it's members only, except in the summer). Still, you can play a round at the nearby Manatee County Golf Course in Bradenton, which is just a mini-day trip from AMI.

Don't need a full course? Enjoy a family outing at  The Fish Hole mini golf on Bridge Street in Bradenton Beach instead.
