About Perico Preserve

Perico Preserve is a prime example of the Manatee County community and local government's efforts to turn an ordinary piece of land into a haven for local wildlife and visitors alike.

Perico Preserve was conceptualized when county commissioners recognized the need to protect Florida's unique ecosystems. Over the years, the land has been restored to include wetlands, mangroves, scrub hills, and bayou areas.

Considering these are very diverse areas, you can imagine the diversity of species that exists here! In a region where growth and construction are common, as with most touristic destinations, preserving natural areas such as this one becomes necessary.

Getting to Perico Preserve

Perico Preserve is a mere stone's throw away from AMI. From Anna Maria Island, you can take FL-64 E/Manatee Avenue to Bradenton in under 10 minutes from most points on the island! In other words, it's the perfect half-day trip from AMI!

This state park has easy boardwalk trails to follow, as well as a few bike paths. The walks and mild hikes are quite easy for all to enjoy. These paths range from easy walks, perfect for families, to more adventurous hikes for those looking to cover more ground. Avid hikers won't find an arduous trek, however. As you walk, you'll pass through different habitats, each with its own distinctive and unique charm. The boardwalks and viewing areas provide stunning views of the wetlands and are ideal for leisurely strolls and taking in the scenery.

Perico Preserve boasts a network of trails that provide a great opportunity to explore the area on two wheels. The main loop trail offers absolutely incredible views and a chance to experience the diverse habitats up close, regardless of whether you're biking or hiking.

It's worth noting that some areas of the loop are closed off to bikes to protect the more delicate ecosystems and ensure the safety of the local wildlife residents. These sections are clearly marked with signs, so you'll need to park your bike and continue on foot in these zones. It's a good idea to bring a lock to secure your bike while you explore the restricted areas on two legs.

Enjoy a Picnic Lunch
