Following a $2.5 million renovation by renowned golf architect Gene Bates of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, the “new” IMG Academy Golf Club reopened in 2003 as the region’s most playable, scenic, and technically advanced golf course. The course has been lengthened to 6,855 yards from the back tees, and the routing of Nos. 10 and 18 reversed, resulting in a spectacular “island” green on No. 10 and an all-around “new course feel” for our Members. The grass is a state-of-the-art hybrid developed specifically for southern courses. TifEagle was planted on greens and TifSport on the fairways, tees and rough. These thicker, denser grasses can be cut shorter and allow the golf ball to “sit up” better. The renovation project also included replacement of the irrigation-drainage system with additional lush landscaping, rebuilt sand traps and a larger practice facility.
